Lithium silicate densifier | Treatment for concrete

Lithium is a chemical element known to reduce damage to concrete caused by the alkali-silica reaction by penetrating the surface and reacting with the free limes particles.

It is more and more frequent to hear the word “lithium” or lithium silicate related to concrete, and when we talk about concrete pavements the expectations in terms of quality and performance are very high.

As it is a new surface treatment that is recently beginning to be applied to all types of pavements, there is a lot of inexperience and lack of knowledge about lithium as a concrete densifier.

To understand this type of surface treatment, we will explain what this treatment is, why it is used and in which cases it is recommended.

What is lithium treatment?

In a nutshell, lithium treatment for concrete floors aims to harden and create a more resistant and durable surface.

Lithium is contained in commercially available concrete hardeners which reacts and calcifies with free lime particles in the concrete through a chemical reaction.

How is lithium applied to concrete floors?

The application is relatively simple, just spray the lithium solution on the clean concrete and then spread with a mop on the surface to ensure proper absorption in equal parts.

Lithium treatment alone does not add much value to the surface, it must be done in combination with a surface polishing process.

Therefore, we recommend that you find out more about BECOSAN® treatment, which combines the best of polishing and the best of lithium.
